In a recent interview, Malayalam actor Siju Sunny responded to a common question—“Why
math? I’ve never used it in real life!” His words echoed a deep-rooted issue in our
education system: the fear of mathematics.
This fear often stems from rote learning—a method focused on memorization, not
understanding. Students are trained to score, not to think. An article I read recently,
“Rote Learning and the Destruction of Creativity,” emphasized how this kills curiosity.
But true math learning is different. It builds reasoning, creativity, and innovation. A
student who understands math conceptually won’t be surprised by AI—they’ll be prepared
to shape it.
We need to shift:
⭓ Make math visual and connected to real life.
⭓ Embrace mistakes as learning moments.
OMath is not just a subject—it’s a way of thinking. Let’s make it alive, joyful, and meaningful. Because when students stop fearing math, they start transforming the world with it.
